Our teaching is built on the four core pillars of language acquisition:

Listening

Curriculum Breakdown

P1 & P2: Foundation Phase
Goal: Spark interest and build a solid base

Primary 1 :

  • Listening & Speaking: Learn through songs, stories, and simple classroom instructions. Build confidence to introduce oneself and express basic preferences.
  • Reading & Writing: Master Hanyu Pinyin and recognise basic characters. Learn correct stroke order and write simple words/short sentences.

Primary 2:

  • Listening & Speaking: Understand short stories and answer factual questions. Conduct simple conversations with more complete sentences.
  • Reading & Writing: Expand vocabulary. Read short passages and learn to write a coherent paragraph of 3-5 sentences.

P3 & P4: Skill Development Phase
Goal: Master core techniques and bridge to Upper Primary

Primary 3 :

  • Oral: Begin systematic 看图说话 (picture description) training.
  • Comprehension: Be introduced to comprehension question types (main idea, details, sequence).
  • Composition: Progress from sentences to paragraph writing, learning to describe people, places, and events.

Primary 4:

  • Oral: Learn to express personal opinions. Identify attitudes and emotions in spoken language.
  • Comprehension: Tackle inferential and causal comprehension questions.
  • Composition: Learn essential essay structure: 开头 (Introduction), 经过 (Body), 结尾 (Conclusion).

P5 & P6: PSLE Mastery Phase
Goal: PSLE readiness and high-order skill application

Primary 5 :

  • Listening: Master PSLE format questions, keyword spotting, and the elimination method (排除法).
  • Oral: Excel in interactive conversation, presenting viewpoints logically.
  • Comprehension: Strengthen skills in inference, judgement of emotions, and understanding author's intent.
  • Composition: Write with mature structure, using specific details and descriptions.

Primary 6:

  • Full PSLE Integration: Intensive mock exams covering all components.
  • Weakness Analysis: Targeted revision based on mistake patterns.
  • Exam Strategy: Refine time management, advanced writing techniques (e.g., use of 修辞 rhetorical devices), and oral presentation skills for peak performance.

How we teach Key Components

Composition Writing:
Our 3-Step Method (写作三步法)

  1. 准备作文 (Preparation): Brainstorm ideas and relevant vocabulary based on the theme.
  2. 示范作文 (Demonstration): Analyse model essays to understand structure, good vocabulary, and techniques.
  3. 模仿作文 (Application): Students apply what they've learned to write their own composition.

Oral Examination: Structured Mastery

  • Reading Aloud (朗读): Focus on accurate 发音 (pronunciation) and 语调 (intonation).
  • Picture Description (看图说话): Use the "5W1H" method to describe scenes and give personal opinions.
  • Interactive Conversation (互动问答): Learn to structure responses, support views with examples, and converse naturally.

Comprehension & Listening: Skill-Based Drills

  • Break down key question types (e.g., 主旨 Main Idea, 推断 Inference).
  • Students learn to identify keywords and use contextual clues.
  • Listening skills are honed through strategies like catching the gist first, then details.
